Teresa Carvalheira
Heirlooming

Heirlooming is a practice of napperon and doily translation for continuity. Following the footsteps of the historical figure of the ragpicker that collects unwanted textiles from households and transforms it into new interior textile pieces, nappicker Teresa Carvalheira designs a process of memory transmission while transforming family-inherited napperons into memorial, yet functional or wearable textile objects.

Designer, seamstress/up-cycler and activator, Teresa Carvalheira is Community Manager for Fashion Revolution Portugal. Based in the Netherlands, she continues to work on interdisciplinary projects relating crafts, environment and migration between central Europe and the Mediterranean (Portugal, Turkey and Greece).
